Foxconn has made a significant move to strengthen its position in the booming AI server market.
The primary driver behind this investment is the incredible growth in demand for AI servers. Foxconn's AI server rack shipments grew by 300% in a single quarter in 2025, and its AI server revenue has already surpassed the NT$1 trillion milestone, accounting for over 12% of the company's total revenue. To meet its ambitious goal of capturing over 40% of the global AI server market in 2026, the company urgently needs more dedicated and scalable manufacturing capacity. This is where its Vietnam facility, Fulian Precision, comes into play.
Beyond just meeting demand, this move is a strategic hedge against geopolitical risks. For years, tightening U.S. export controls on advanced technology to China have encouraged global manufacturers to diversify their production bases. By investing heavily in Vietnam and also expanding in the U.S., Foxconn is executing a classic 'supply chain de-risking' strategy. This ensures that production can continue smoothly, regardless of policy shifts, while also placing factories closer to key customers in the U.S.
The pressure to expand is also coming directly from customers. High-profile collaborations, such as a partnership with OpenAI to co-design data center racks, and reports that major GPU vendors are booking out server production capacity well into 2026, have created a sense of urgency. To avoid becoming a bottleneck, Foxconn needs to secure its own supply of critical components like server racks and enclosures.
This is why the recent investment is so important. The $287.1 million stake acquired by its subsidiary, Ingrasys, in the Vietnamese Fulian Precision unit is a decisive step to consolidate control and accelerate production. This large investment follows a smaller $38-39 million capital injection earlier in the same month, bringing the total for March to over $325 million. This clearly signals Foxconn's commitment to rapidly scaling up its Vietnam operations to become a central hub in its global AI server supply chain.
