LG Electronics is making a major strategic shift, turning its air conditioning business into a powerful B2B growth engine.
This transformation is backed by a clear strategy focusing on high-growth areas, particularly in the Middle East and the broader “Global South,” as well as the booming AI data center market. The company is moving beyond consumer sales to secure large-scale government (B2G) and corporate (B2B) contracts, such as providing cooling systems for a massive logistics hub in Singapore and an airport in Congo.
So, what’s driving this change? There are three key factors at play. First is the explosive growth of AI. AI models require enormous data centers that generate immense heat, creating a structural demand for advanced, high-efficiency cooling solutions. With data center spending projected to reach $1.7 trillion by 2030, LG is positioning itself with new products like liquid cooling units (CDUs) and cold plates to capture this market. Second, climate change is increasing the need for air conditioning in hot regions. The International Energy Agency (IEA) notes that cooling can account for over 70% of peak electricity demand in the Middle East on hot days. This creates a sustained market for LG's HVAC solutions in large infrastructure projects like airports and real estate developments. Third, stricter environmental regulations worldwide are forcing a transition to eco-friendly refrigerants. The EU and US are phasing out gases with high GWP (Global Warming Potential). LG is ahead of the curve, expanding its lineup of products using low-GWP refrigerants like R32, which makes its bids more competitive.
LG's strategy is already showing results. Its energy solutions division recorded strong revenue and profit in 2025, and the company has set an ambitious goal to more than double its HVAC revenue by 2030. This B2B pivot is not just a plan; it's a validated strategy with tangible wins and a clear path forward, supported by powerful global trends.
- HVAC: Stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. It refers to the systems used to control the temperature, humidity, and purity of the air in enclosed spaces.
- B2B: An acronym for Business-to-Business. It describes companies that sell products or services to other companies, rather than directly to individual consumers.
- GWP (Global Warming Potential): A measure of how much heat a greenhouse gas traps in the atmosphere relative to carbon dioxide. A lower GWP indicates a more environmentally friendly substance.
